The sky above is darker than usual. Any other night, it is a blanket of stars. Any other night, I can easily point out Orion’s Belt. But not tonight. Amid the chirping cricks and the barking dogs, I see nothing but an expanse of darkness beyond the great branches of the oak. Clouds are all that meet my eyes. Not even the moon shows its face. It is so dark. So quiet. Everything is still. The sky is lighter far by the bridge, where the pillars of light illuminate the clouds. But here, above me, everything is eerily dark, the sameness worrisome. I sit, the light from my computer lighting my face. In this light I sit, looking to the empty sky. Oh how I miss the stars, how they sparkle and shine so high above.
So I found a bunch of writing challenges on Tumblr and figured, hey, I'm in a pretty grumpy mood and I'm having some issues getting things out, so why not do this. The challenge was this:

Go outside right now. Look up. Do you see the stars, sun, moon, clouds? Describe the sky as you see it right now. Put as much detail into it as you can. I want to feel like I am staring up at the sky right beside you. Submit what you’ve written and I will post it onto my page. Then we can all visualize what the others are seeing wherever they are. This is also great practice for your detailing; give your readers enough detail to place a picture in their mind.

So, I did just that.

The challenger was awritersinspirations.tumblr.co…

I hope you enjoy and you might want to look forward to more little things like this.

Also, it's really creepy outside my hose at one o'clock in the morning.</span>

I like this one. Come on by and we'll hang outside to watch the stars.
