Zabel laughed as he approached me and kicked me onto my back. "Memories can be fun or sad or ever painful. I'm sure you're feeling lots of glorious pain right now." He cackled. "Well, I know for sure that dear, sweet Lucero would enjoy you at such a tasty time. He always did prefer the taste of fear above all else. Said it made the energy a bit spicy and sweet. I must say, I always preferred my little lovelies to be…" He pondered it for a moment before snapping his fingers. "I love the taste of agony. Little children in pain are the most tasty, sweet and spicy at the same time. It's magnificent!" He exclaimed in glee, throwing his head back wickedly as his eyes sparkled disturbingly as they adopted a yellowish sheen.

I fought to stand, stumbling as my knees tried to give out again. Turning towards Zabel, I glared at him. "You're disgusting." I snarled.

"Why thank you my dear, I do so love a good compliment. It feels me with such tremendous glee to know that you're still so...lively." He said and cackled, a blast of black psychic energy ripping into me. I was flung backwards and slammed into a light post behind my, my forehead smacking the iron pole that held the flickering candle inside. I slipped down to the ground and let my eyes close. "What's this? Have I already broken this lovely new toy? No my dear I can't have you sleeping quite just yet." He giggled hysterically, his green eyes shining hungrily as he reached down, grabbing hold of the front of my shirt and lifting me easily off the ground, dangling me a good foot above the road. I clutched at his arm as the shirt up tightly around my waist.

"Let me go!" I hissed.

"Let you go? Why of course I'll let you go." He laughed cruelly, casting me aside. Stumbling up to my feet, I tried to run, but he charged in behind me and bashed me head against the stone building, his icy fingers still squeezing the back of my skull. "Oh yes, pain is such a wonderfully gleeful thing to enjoy. Do show me more of that agonized wonder!" He screeched.

"And just who do you think you are?" A deep, familiar voice asked from behind him.

Zabel turned and the glee on his face was replaced by curious intrigue. He turned and, in doing so, I got to see that the person who had spoken was Terran, standing on the front steps of the church, His ice blue eyes were blazing with the fury of a volcano and I was actually scared of him. "What's this? I get two playthings in one day? Oh my, oh my! It's as though a present has arrived just for me!" He cackled psychotically. "Now tell me, what should I carve from you first, hmm?" He inquired, tapping his chin with long fingers, eyeing Terran hungrily.

"You won't be taking anything more, not from either one of us." Terran snarled, reaching back behind him, pulling two long blades from a sheath sucked into his belt. He was wielding two identical Wakizashi blades, each about a foot and a half long with plain, African blackwood hilts. The silver blades were etched with strange symbols that I couldn't read.

"Hmm, you're going to be fun. But let's turn this into a game of chicken, shall we? I am going to butcher you and you are going to cluck." He sneered, stepping forward as he forced black tendrils of energy to wrap around my arms and legs, binding me together so I couldn't escape as he focused his full attention on Terran.

"Fine by me, but don't lose your feathers." Terran taunted and charged forward, throwing one of his Wakizashis at Zabel at such a speed that it buried itself deep into the man's shoulder before he could even react. He ducked beneath a slash from Zabel's knife and ducked, sweeping his foot in an arc, knocking Zabel down easily so he could retrieve the blade he'd thrown.

Zabel smiled and arched his back, leaping up through the air like an acrobat and landing on his feet easily. A sadistic smile spread across his pale lips as he gathered orbs of glowing magical energy from around him before scattering them in a searing burst of energy that arced towards Terran.

Terran rolled on the ground, weaving, tumbling and ducking to avoid the worst of the magical hellfire but Zabel was skilled and it wasn't an easy task.

"Oh yes, I am going to have you extra crispy with this." He shrieked and unleashed a concentrated torrent of flames that scorched the cobblestone rocks of the road away, melting them into a molten muck that sizzled and bubbled.

Terran eyed the molten ground before backing up and running full speed at the wall before leaping up onto it and running along its face towards Zabel. When he finally leapt off the wall of the building, he shot himself towards Zabel, bringing his right leg around in a powerful arc. His foot contacted with Zabel's cheek, sending the older man sprawling to the ground. "Oh, oh! My face!" Zabel screamed in rage. "You'll pay for this you obnoxious, impudent, insolent, disgusting little worm!" As he spat his vicious flurry of insults, Zabel gathered more dark energy around his body. "Tell me, pretty boy, how will you deal with this?!" He cackled and unleashed the darkness in a tidal wave that engulfed nearly the entire street, cracking the bricks as Terran was swallowed by the dark magic and tumbled helplessly through the air. AS he floated in the wave of darkness, unable to right himself, claws of darkness seemed to strike him from every direction at once, tearing into his body.

Zabel cackled mercilessly as Terran dropped to the ground, too injured to fight back. "Oh, what's this? You're done already? I wanted to play some more! You ought to give me that satisfaction after what you did to my face!" He shouted, the tone of his voice turning on the last word as his anger boiled to the surface. He grabbed Terran around the neck of his shirt and lifted him off the ground as black tendrils snaked around Terran's throat, slowly but surely cutting off his airway.

As I watched the scene helplessly from the sidelines, I was reminded of all the times that Terran had helped me and my anger began to rise. All the pain and anger and fear that I had experienced was slamming into me relentlessly. The black rope-like tendrils that had wrapped around me began to hiss but nobody was paying much attention. After a moment or two, they rushed away, letting me stand albeit it barely, my knees shaking beneath me. I felt the unbridled energy surging in my chest, filling me with energy that I didn't understand.

Use the energy of your people to protect those you love.

It was the same voice I had heard before but I hadn't recognized it before. It was my mother, telling me what I needed to do. I took the briefest of moments to thank her before embracing the power she had given me just before she died, still touched with her personality and the emotions she'd felt when she had been killed – sadness but an overwhelming desire to protect. As if it could no longer hand the strain, the bracelet that Lucero had made me wear snapped off easily.

Once the bracelet fell away, my powers erupted. Fifty mile per hour winds tore through the city as thunder boomed relentlessly above. Rain began to pour by the buckets, drenching me in seconds. Lightning erupted through the sky as the wind ripped at the roofs of the buildings closest to me, as if I was the eye of a wild storm.

Zabel turned around to face me with sickly glittering eyes. "Oh? It seems this little mouse has a teensy bit of strength left in her." He smiled cruelly and allowed Terran to drop to the ground where the younger man grasped at his crushed throat, wheezing badly. "Tell me, are you not tired yet? Have you not had enough of this pointless struggle? After all, those bracelets are too powerful to break without sapping most of your energy. Are you truly not feeling weak yet?" Zabel grinned maniacally as he crouched in front of me. The energy surging within me faltered and I tried to step away, but my feet were refused to function. "Ah, such resistance and life you have. I should have drained you of everything, before leaving you such a listless husk."

In response to his words, my stomach lurched and my barely conscious mind filled with anxiety and pain. My eyes flashed and I felt a deep swirling energy emerge from my body and form a bolt of lightning that shot down from the sky, striking the ground directly between us, effectively separating us. Zabel jumped backwards and Terran instinctively covered his head and ears at the cannon-like blast that hit with the lightning. He studied me for a moment as the violent winds buffeted her hair all over the place.

"We'll continue our little show another time." He laughed and vanished in an eruption of black energy, swirling around before they dissipated. Once the danger from Zabel had gone, my adrenaline began to falter and my knees buckled as the rain became no more than a constant drizzle. I lay there on the ground, breathing weakly but steadily.

I winced when Terran came by my side, the pain clear on his face. "Why did you go and do that?" He demanded, shaking my shoulders angrily.

"I'm alright." I reassured him.

"You're lying." He growled, bursting straight through my lie as he lifted me off the ground, grunting softly as he carried me inside the church once more. "Don't even try to protect me like that again." He threatened but it fell on deaf ears as I slipped out of consciousness in his arms.
And THIS is how I truly wanted Zabel to act like. Tell me what y'all think!
