I sat with my legs folded, the warm stone smooth beneath me as I faced the sea. Sea spray caught me in the face but I didn’t mind. Everything was so peaceful that I really never wanted to leave. Everything else in my life was noisy or stressful, but this place was always so quiet and warm. I could sit for hours, bothered only by curious seagulls or the very seldom jogger. Everybody was always in a bad mood, ready to shout and scowl and take that anger out on those around them.
In front of me, the sea was dotted with dozens of sailboats, kayaks and even a few paddleboards. Beyond the, dolphins breached and even beyond them were some ships, their heavy-duty motors carrying them easily through the flat waters.
Music hummed through my headphones, blocking out all the noise. My hair whipped around my face, the wind tugging at my clothes. Reaching down, my fingertips brushed the fabric of a backpack. My backpack, filled with the few necessities I had decided to bring, my car keys clipped to the strap. A suitcase was back in the car, filled with all the clothes I would need.
Those ships brought out a jealousy in me. I wanted to be free, free to sail the waters or cruise along the highways, get away from the negativities and death, hatred and conceit.
Grabbing my backpack, I pushed up and started for the car, a smile slipping across my lips. I wasn’t going to be tied down anymore. Freedom was in front of me. Freedom for the moment, until I found somewhere that I could enjoy, could truly live. Just like those ships and sailboats, just like the dolphins. I had to get away.
I had to get free.
“I will be free.”
Eh. I'm having one of those days again. Want nothing more than to get away.
