A girl of about sixteen years stepped up to the laboratory, her heart fluttering wildly in her chest. She’d chosen a dress her mother had bought specifically for this day – a hooded black jumper over a white shirt with three-quarter sleeves, along with a pair of tall, fitted boots. She’d also given me a shoulder bag, the strap of which had a small length of special material to hold six items for easy grabbing.
“You can do this, Brynn. Just go inside, and ask.” She chanted the mantra, taking a deep breath before reaching up to knock. She hesitated, just a moment. She’d already gotten the go-ahead from her mother, and she knew this was what she wanted, so why did she hesitate? Taking a shuddering sigh, she pushed back a lock of black hair and squared her shoulder. No. She was not going to run away. Not anymore.
Lifting her hand again, she knocked. A moment later, the door swung inward. Just inside the door was a twenty-odd year old man wearing jeans and a blue button-up, the sleeves rolled to his elbows. He looked at the young girl with raised eyebrows over a pair of grey eyes half-hidden behind a pair of glasses. He smiled, though, and light shone across his features. “Ah, hello Brynn! I was beginning to wonder if you’d show up late.” He laughed and ushered her inside.
“Hello Professor Willow.” She said as he pulled her inside.
“I assume you got the ok from your other and are all set for this?” he asked, spinning around so he could walk backwards and still talk to her. “This isn’t something for the faint of heart. It’s not always going to be fun. You do understand that, right?” He asked, collecting things from various shelves.
“I know, but I still want to do it.” Brynn answered resolutely.
“Alright, well here are some supplies to get you to the next few towns. If you’re careful, these will go a long way.” He said, stepping over and stuffing them into my bag, explaining where he put each item and what each item would do. He also handed me the device I was setting out to work out, clipping it to my bag’s strap.
Finally, he stepped back and turned to Brynn. They’d grown up together, and would miss each other. But he had a job to do and she’d help him by doing what she wanted to do. So, with a smile, he motioned to a table beside him. On the table sat three small pokéballs, each one shiny beneath the white lights above them. Brynn knew that each contained a Pokémon, and one of them would be going with her. Which one she would choose, though, she wasn’t sure.
Finally, with shaking fingers, she reached out. She looked over each of them. Closing her eyes, she curled her fingers around one of them. No matter what, whichever Pokémon lay within the ball, they were together now, and they’d both fight for each other.
She clicked the button and the ball clicked open. With a flash of red light, the Pokémon emerged in front of her. Opening her eyes, she looked at the little creature – and smiled. For once, she wasn’t afraid.

Pick whichever starter you think she should have. Because I've not actually chosen.
